Early Years Learning Framework

Valley Heights Preschool Long Day Care Centre utilises ‘The Early Years Learning Framework’ in order to enhance the quality of our educational program and to encourage children’s growing sense of Belonging, Being and Becoming. The Early Years Learning Framework encourages all stakeholders of our service to collaborate together in achieving positive and ongoing learning practices, principles and learning outcomes. Working together to underpin our practices, principles and learning outcomes ensures that our planning, programming and relationships are reflective and inclusive of our centres context.

The Early Years Learning Framework has a strong emphasis on play-based learning. The framework also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development. In addition, the framework has a focus on successful transition to formal schooling with the 5 Key Elements being:

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity.
Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners.
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.

The five key learning outcomes acknowledge how all children across birth to five years, learn in a variety of ways, welcome their prior knowledge, thoughts and interests to promote children’s learning as an ongoing process. The five learning outcomes are guided throughout our daily indoor, outdoor, and group time programs as well as captured in each child’s unique learning portfolio.
